Stone Culture Festival
Iksan accedes to the megalithic culture of Mahan and Baekje with brilliant stone-made cultural assets, such as the Mireuksa Stone Pagoda, and Wanggungri Five-Storey Stone Pagoda. Iksan also inherited the spirit of Asadal, Baekje’s great stonework artist who built the Dabo Pagoda and the Buddha Pagoda in Silla.
The stone industry has been a traditional strength of the region. There are around 200 specialized companies around Hamyeol, Hwangdeung, and Yeosan. The National Stone Culture Show offers various activities to advertise Iksan as the origin of the nation’s stonework culture. The show includes the stone processing reemergence exhibit, a stone exhibition, sales of stone products, and a national stone sculpture contest.
